The Full Story
Our Awards
There are three Awards in memory of dearly loved and appreciated members of the Trentham Community.

Dr Gwenda Wisewould
1884-1972
In 1938 Dr Wisewould moved to Trentham, making 'the little town my home and its people my heritage', serving as its doctor until the day of her death at the age of 87. Conditions in the small settlements of the region, and on the roads over the hilly terrain between them, demanded physical courage and resourcefulness. Her considerable surgical skills enabled her to deal with emergencies, operating in isolated cottages or in Trentham's tiny hospital she called her 'home from home'. 'You cannot do this work looking pretty'. Sturdily built and wrapped in an ancient greatcoat, she worked long hours, travelled tirelessly often not charging for her services.

The Gweneth Wisewould Prize for Best Portrait has been a feature of this Art and Craft Show for many years thanks to The Little gallery.

Wisewould, Gweneth (2011). Outpost a Doctor on the Divide. Elizabeth Berzkalns. ISBN 978-0-646-56866-9.
Phyllis Smith
The Phyllis Smith Prize for Best Watercolour is in honour of our late mother who over her 94 years was a keen painter. She used a range of mediums but water colour was her favourite.
As a keen exhibitor and a person who got great enjoyment from local art shows over many years, this award is to encourage artists of all ages and skill levels to exhibit their art for all of us to enjoy.

Stan Falloon
President of the Trentham Lions Club and pillar of the Trentham Community.
Stan gave generously of his time, wisdom, resources, encouragement and smiles. He was always there to lend a hand and loved to give kids opportunities. He believed they were our future and did whatever he could to involve and inspire youth and help all people to be the best they could be.

The Craft Prizes for soft and hard mediums sponsored by the Trentham Lions Club is a fitting memorial to this practical person who could make anything work somehow.
